Auction News - Frank Miller BATMAN AND ROBIN Drawing

In "Batman Auction News" this week there was a special item on eBay that ended recently, some Frank Miller original artwork of BATMAN AND ROBIN as they appeared in his famous 1980's Graphic Novel, The Dark Knight Returns. It was drawn on DC Comics comic book cover stock paper ( measuring 12" X 17" ). Frank Miller sketched it in 1990 as a special 75th birthday gift to former DC Comics Editor Julius "Julie" Schwartz. This is a fully penciled and inked art illustration with a signed inscription from Miller on it, to Julius. The artwork is just totally wonderful, a great piece. The auction ended the other night at a closing bid around $11,300.00... WOW! I mean, who has that kind of money? Ha! But regardless of the price, it looks awesome & also has the bonus of having a lot of historical significance. Plus, I love that Robin is the "Carrie Kelley" version.

PROFILES IN HISTORY Sells Jim Carrey's RIDDLER COSTUME on eBay!

OK, I've done a few posts in the past about this amazing auction company called PROFILES IN HISTORY. This company gets the most incredible Hollywood memorabilia to sell. Recently ( around Dec 14th, 2007 ) on eBay, they sold the original RIDDLER COSTUME worn, on screen, by Jim Carrey in the BATMAN FOREVER movie ( 1995 ). It sold for $10,000.00. Yes, you read that right, ten thousand dollars!! Then, they also sold the authentic RIDDLER COSTUME GREEN HAT. It went for $4000.00. I've been following this auction service for years & I'm sort-of a Fan. They have a very cool website you might like to check out sometime. Right now they're promoting a sale where you can get an original Terminator Movie 6 Ft-Tall Exo-Skeleton Statue ( used in the movie, extremely detailed ) & an original Jack Skeleton figure & Sled used in the Stop-Motion Animation of The Nightmare Before Christmas! These guys always have totally insane museum-quality items!! Here's a link!

Auction : Original Batman Costume Mask Worn By George Clooney

Recently on eBay, a very cool auction company called PROFILES IN HISTORY auctioned off the original costume mask/cowl that George Clooney wore in the Batman & Robin movie. I can't remember the exact price but I think it went for $6,000.00. Now, that's a bargain for a one-of-a-kind piece like that! This company has also sold the original Batman, Robin, & Batgirl costumes, from the same movie, in previous lots. Those all brought around $12,000 each. This company always has the most impressive items. "Where do they get those wonderful toys?!", ha ha! The only company I can think of that might compete with them would be Heritage Auctions from Dallas, Tx.

ORIGINAL BATMAN & BATGIRL COSTUME Auction Prices

Just the other day the original BATMAN & BATGIRL latex costumes that Val Kilmer & Alicia Silverstone wore in the BATMAN FOREVER Movie were sold on eBay by PROFILES IN HISTORY. That company always has some really amazing items & this was a rare chance to buy a piece of Batman movie History! The Batman suit sold for $55,000 & the Batgirl for $42,500 ( Silver Mask included ). These are wayyy out of my budget but were really nice to see! I hope the new owners end up donating these to a Museum because they are very historical pieces. Profiles In History BATMAN MOVIE PROP & MEMORABILIA - Auction Starts Tonight!

Tonight, in California & online too, the famous Auction Group PROFILES IN HISTORY will be auctioning off a few very desired pieces of Bat-History! The sale includes an original Michael Keaton Batman Full-Costume from the Batman Returns movie, The Umbrella used by Danny Devito for his Penguin character, Original Concept Production Drawing of various characters from the film ( mostly revolving around the Penguin ), the "Gotham City Snow Globe" used by Poison Ivy ( Uma Thurman ) in Batman & Robin, The Sword used by Liam Neeson to fight Christian Bale in Batman Begins, Chris O'Donnell's Robin "Ice Suit" from Batman & Robin, Jim Carrey's Signature Riddler Cane from Batman Forever, & much much MORE! In fact, there's almost too much to list, ha ha! But I gotta mention my favorite item, mainly for sentimental reasons, & that is they will have the Original BATGIRL Belt Buckle used for Yvonne Craig's costume in the 1966 TV Series. Auction News - BATMAN Comic Book Issue # 1 Sells For $55,268.75

The big comic book news right now is the fact that Heritage Auction Galleries of Dallas, TX just sold a number one issue of BATMAN for $55,268.75. Yeah, you read that right, 55 thousand! There's a photo of it up above showing that it was graded at 5.5 condition by CGC. The guy who owned it is from Alaska & bought it at a garage sale back in the 1970's. So, I'd say that was a pretty good investment. According to the Associated Press there are only about 300 known issues of this book to exist.

BATMAN Comic Book DETECTIVE COMICS # 27 Makes Record Price at Heritage Auction

Well, it looks like the DETECTIVE COMICS #27 recently auctioned off by Heritage Auction Galleries of Dallas, TX is now totally famous as being the world's most expensive auction price for a Golden Age Comic Book! Of course all Batman Fans know this issue to be the very 1st appearance of the Dark Knight in 1939. It sold for $1,075,000. Yes, you read that right, One Million Seventy Five Thousand Dollars!! Just 3 days prior to the Batman comic book selling so well a company called Comic Connect auctioned off a vintage issue of Superman ( Action Comics # 1 ) for 1 million. Then, Batman beat that record price by 75 thousand!!

BATMAN AUCTION NEWS - Bob Kane's Original 1939 Page Proofs for Detective Comics 27 at Heritage

The big news in both the auction world & comic book fandom is that Heritage Auctions ( Dallas, Texas ) is offering the Original Production Proofs for Detective Comics # 27 ( 1939 ) that were once owned by Batman Co-Creator Bob Kane. Of course we're talking about the first appearance of the character here! A "Proof Page" in comics was a test printing of an uncolored page used by artists and writers to see how their work would look on the printed page. Now, while this is not the actual original art, this is probably the closest anybody will ever come to owning some production material from this landmark issue. They're estimated to sell for at least $1000 each & they have 5 of them for sale, which are pages 2-6. The image up above shows page 3 & if you click on it, it's extremely sharp, you can see the amazing details of this item. AUCTION: Original 1992 BATMAN RETURNS Michael Keaton Costume

A company, named Profiles in History, recently sold the original Batman Bat-Suit worn by Michael Keaton in the 1992 BATMAN RETURNS for $90,000.00! This impressive costume includes the original “armored” rubber body suit, boots, gauntlet gloves with serrated “fins”, rubberized cape, and of course the iconic “Batman” cowl. ( Click on the above picture for a larger, more detailed, photo ). This is a complete costume from head-to-toe, with the zippered closure in the back to allow entry for Keaton. The entire costume is mounted on a custom display with a lifecast of Michael Keaton, and stands over six feet tall. Personally I think 90 thousand is kinda cheap for a great piece of Bat-History like this but it's still outta my price range. If I was a millionaire collector I would have bid 92, just to be symbolic ...ha ha!

Auction News: Original 1966 Batman Coloring Book Production Art

Last night, on eBay, the auction for the original production art for one of the 1966 Batman Whitman Coloring Books ended at $1,925.00. Now, if you ask me, that's a huge bargain. I mean, this item is totally priceless! This RARE piece of Bat-Memorabilia was offered by Golden Treasures of New York City. They always seem to have the most amazing stuff! Profiles In History Sells Original MR. FREEZE COSTUME PROP From The Batman and Robin Movie

OK, I know that the Batman & Robin movie was not that great, & the Mr. Freeze character in that film was totally lame, but this is "Batman News" so I thought I would post it, ha ha! You might remember awhile back we reported about the cool bat-memorabilia featured in a recent Profiles In History auction. Well, the Mr. Freeze Costume sold for $70,800 dollars! WOW! That totally blows me away. I always wonder who are these super-rich people who can afford to buy this kinda stuff, it must be nice! ( Yeah, I'm poor & bitter ). PROFILES IN HISTORY Auction is Selling Some Amazing Batman Memorabilia

OK, This post is for all you "Millionaire Collectors" & is sort of in 2 sections. In one, Profiles in History is holding an auction on May 1st, 2009, where they are selling off a huge proportion of the Hollywood Wax Museum statues. These are the original wax statues displayed at the famous museum & there are a ton of great ones like James Dean, Lucille Ball, Wizard of OZ, Henry Winkler as The Fonz, John Travolta, Bob Hope, etc...way too many to list here but it's totally crazy how many there are! Included in that sale are life-size figures of 1989 Batman ( Michael Keaton ), '89 Joker ( Jack Nicholson ), & 1992 Catwoman From Batman Returns ( Michelle Pfeiffer ).

FIRST BATMAN COMIC Expected to Set World Record Price at Heritage Auctions

Attention Batman Fans: On February 25th, 2010 Heritage Auction Galleries ( Dallas, TX ) will be offering a truly exceptional copy of Detective Comics #27, the very first appearance of the Caped Crusader! The auction is expected to set two important marks:

It will, more than likely, become the single most valuable comic ever offered at public auction. Though it's being sold with no reserve and no minimum bid, it's expected to bring at least $300,000. The current record for a comic sold at auction stands at $317,000, for a copy of Action Comics #1, sold last year at another auction house.

The other question the auction will settle, at least for the time being, is one of the great debates of Pop Culture: Who is worth more today, Batman or Superman?

“Since Heritage began auctioning vintage comics, we have heard more client requests for Detective #27 than for Superman’s first comic, Action #1, and that’s both from hard-core comic collectors and from clients in other fields who are interested in this issue as a pop culture milestone,” said Lon Allen, Director of Sales for the Comics Division of Heritage. “Superman came first, but I think in certain quarters Batman is the more popular character. This is probably the most desirable comic Heritage has ever auctioned.”

Save the Superman House!

I know that this post sort of seems like it's not Batman-related but it is. There's a small residential house in Cleveland, Ohio where 2 teenage kids in the early 1930's dreamed up the idea of Superman. Of course I'm talking about Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster. The original house where "Superman was born" is a total wreck. So, the SIEGEL AND SHUSTER SOCIETY was created, as a charity, to raise money to restore the house. Many major artists of the comic book industry have donated artwork for auction. They are also selling T-Shirts & other products. They are also just accepting donations. The house where Google was created is saved. The farm where Hewlett Packard was founded is preserved. And Richard Nixon’s house is a museum. But the house where Superman — one of the world’s most recognized heroes — was created? It’s a wreck. So, with the creation of The Siegel & Shuster Society, they hope to raise enough money to repair the house and make sure it will be saved, restored, and there so you can take your kids one day. Without Superman there would have NEVER been a Batman. So, I'm asking all Bat-Blog Readers to please show your support. Let's show them that Batman Fans are the best! Auction News - Batman Movie Memorabilia at Profiles in History

Next Friday & Saturday, December 17th & 18th, PROFILES IN HISTORY will be holding another of their famous "Hollywood Memorabilia" auctions in Beverly Hills, CA. This time they have some extremely amazing items up on the auction block: Original Puppets by Tim Burton from "The Corpse Bride", a Ton of "Blade Runner" Movie Props, Some items from "Terminator", & even "The Wizard of OZ"! But the best items for us Batman Collectors are some pieces from the "Batman Returns" 1992 movie & even one film-prop model from "The Dark Knight". In the "Returns" list there are many Conceptual Art Drawings, Danny Devito's Penguin Costume Pieces ( Umbrella, Monocle, Cigarette Holder ), & a 1/4 Scale Model of the Batmobile. The car alone is expected to bring $30,000 to $50,000 ( just a tiny bit out of my price range ). The "Dark Knight" item is the Garbage Truck driven by a Joker Goon. Auction News - Golden Age BATMAN Original Comic Book Cover Art

There's a HUGE BUZZ in Auction News right now with the Artist Jerry Robinson putting up an extremely famous piece of Original Comic Book Art on the market. We're talking about the cover art for a Golden Age classic, Detective Comics #69 ( Nov 1942 ). This "Joker Double Guns" cover is beautiful, showing Batman, Joker, and Robin, the Boy Wonder! It's important to note that Jerry Robinson created "The Joker" character so it makes this piece even more wonderful.
