BATMAN & VILLAINS Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday

OK, it's the middle of the day & I am finally posting the "Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday " backgrounds. I know, "I'm Late", ( sorry ) but really I was working on the Bat-Blog almost all night ( technical issues ) & slept in late. So, like my Grandmother used to say, "Better late, than never!" But, I think you'll enjoy these backgrounds so here we go! The 1st one was made by me using some graphics I found at the DC Comics website. The visuals were just too awesome to NOT make into a wallpaper, ha! Plus, besides Batman, there are some cool villains: Catwoman & The Penguin! The next wallpaper, I'm very proud to say, was sent in by a Bat-Blog Contributing Artist named Sean Hartter. Both the artwork & art direction are really great! He came up with this very clever idea of making a fake issue of PLAYBILL. These are small booklets you used to get when you went to the theater of a Broadway play. Ironically, it looks EXACTLY like an original issue...making it a wonderful parody. Now the other thing that's pretty funny is that, to give it a heightened sense of realism, he used the real names of famous actors & writers. The play is titled "BATMAN: The Joker's Five Way Revenge", which is a very classic comic book story actually written by Dennis O'Neil. Plus, the 2 real-life Famous Actors are John Barrymore & Lon Chaney. The picture is an actual photo of them but shopped with the Batman & Joker costumes...awesome! It also says that the play was produced by Robert Kane ( Bob Kane ). Which is funny because he's the guy who "created" Batman. I'm not surprised that Bill Finger didn't get a mention, ouch!

Dean Trippe's DOCTOR WHO & SILVER-AGE BATMAN Parody Comic Book Cover

I know this guy named Dean Trippe who is a Graphic Artist / Illustrator & he is extremely talented. The cool thing is that he is also a serious Batman Fan. Well, recently he became inspired by his appreciation of the British DOCTOR WHO TV Show & decided to meld it with his love of the Silver-Age Batman & Robin stories. So, he created this parody comic book cover as sort of an homage ( click on it for a larger, sharper, version ). The art is really great & I totally love the vintage-style Batmobile car! If you would like to purchase this Fine Art Print then be sure to visit his etsy website by clicking HERE!

PARODY, BAT TO THE FUTURE - 1966 BATMAN Tribute Comic Book by Rob Archey

Check it out, here's a brand-new comic book that I know all serious Batman Fans will totally love! It's called PARODY, BAT TO THE FUTURE and was written & drawn by Rob Archey. The book is amazing! Now, Rob was generous enough to send me a Review Copy but my major warning was that I would have to be totally honest about it. He went ahead & sent it to me anyway, ha! Oh man, I'm glad he did. First off, I was sort of shocked by the high quality of the book. The color cover is of a thick glossy stock and the 50 pages within are quality paper, as well. The inside is totally black & white but it doesn't take away from the piece at all. Like I said, the artwork is really great! Plus, oh my god, there's FIFTY PAGES! But the thing that ties it all together though is the story. The storyline is very clever & unique. Plus, it's just extremely fun to read. The basic premise ( No Spoilers Here ) is that Batman, Robin, Joker, plus a few other characters, are totally done in the style of the 1966 BATMAN TV Show. They all think & act completely like they did in the classic series, with their personalities intact & everything. But, because of an evil trap set-up by another villain, they are all transported to the future, the year 2012. Everything in this time is dark & gritty. It's an interesting concept & there are a TON of references to both the '66 TV Show, more modern day comics, & movies like Tim Burton's BATMAN and Christopher Nolan's version ( yeah, there's a little "Schumacher" in there as well ). In fact, many Batman Fans will recognize a lot of them & be totally delighted. The good thing is that it's not an overly done gimmick. Rob just sprinkles some interesting Bat-History here & there and most of the time it's pretty funny. Overall the book has a sort of "campy feeling" about it, perfectly reflecting the spirit of the '66 TV show. Plus, when they're in the future, that time seems different, so there is a very literal shift in both time & attitude. Sorry if I'm not explaining that very well but it's a really neat experience when reading the book. So, overall, I guess I highly recommend this fan-made book. You can get your copy by emailing Rob directly at robarchey@yahoo.com. The price is $6.99 per book with $3.00 shipping and handling. He has a PayPal account or you can send a money order. Please note if you want the book personalized and signed inside. I guess I should make clear that I'm not getting paid in any way for this book review. It's just that it's a very well made product that I know a lot of Batman Fans will really really enjoy, thanks.

BATMAN and ROBIN PARODY ART From The COVERED Blog!

Oh Yeah! The COVERED Blog is a website where they ask other Comic Book Artists & Graphic Designers to re-create some classic comic book covers in their own unique style. They usually show the original book next to the new piece & it's always very clever. This is such a great concept that I wish I would have come up with the idea, ha! Here are just a few examples that are Batman-related. There are many more at the site which you can visit by clicking HERE!

BATMAN PARODY ARTWORK Comic Book Convention Sketches

Here are 2 wonderful pieces of original art I came across the other day while surfing the internet. The 1st one was drawn by Peter Laird. He's the co-creator of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! This was a drawing he did at a comic book con in 1987. It's a movie Alien Creature wearing Batman's costume & cowl! I think it's extremely awesome!! The next drawing ( which is also very awesome ) was done by Eric Talbot. I think he works at Mirage Studios, the company that cranks out artwork for the TMNT comics. It shows one of the Turtle characters dressed as the Dark Knight ...pretty funny!

THE DARK KNIGHT Batman Movie Parody at RIFFTRAX

The comedians over at RIFFTRAX have just completed a funny parody of THE DARK KNIGHT Batman Movie. These are the guys who did Mystery Science Theater 3000 ( or MST3 for you fans out there, ha ha ) & RIFFTRAX is sort of the same thing. They watch movies & make funny commentaries while watching. Be sure to check out their website for more information. But, warning, ya gotta pay for their movies. They're not free.

Video - Batman 1966 TV Theme ( The Dark Knight Style )

Here's a totally great piece of animation. In fact, it's genius! It's a parody of the opening credits sequence from the 1966 BATMAN TV Show, except all the characters have been replaced with Actors from THE DARK KNIGHT movie: Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Heath Ledger, Michael Caine, Aaron Eckhart, etc... it even has the Tumbler-Style Batmobile at the end, replacing the 1966 Car!

Humor Video: 1966 BATMAN TV Show Mash-Up Parody of EMERGENCY Intro!

Here's an extremely well-made 1966 Batman TV Show Fan Video. It's a mash-up of the intro using the style of the old 1970's "EMERGENCY!" TV Series. The editing is really clever. I like how the actors move normally, & then all of a sudden, they freeze! It's exactly like the way the "Emergency" intro was...funny.

FUNNY BATMAN HUMOR PHOTOS & Wacky Merchandise!

One of the things that I really love about doing the Bat-Blog is getting e-mails from readers around the world & they send me funny Batman photos & stuff. All of the above are recent examples & they're all very funny in their own way. Like the 1st photo, it's an actual piece of Batman Merchandise that was made a long time ago is really very rare. It's a Comedy Record Album titled THE ADVENTURES OF BATMAN & RUBIN ( The Jewish Boy Wonder ) with Allen & Rossi. You might recognize the bug-eyed Marty Allen. He was a very funny actor. The next item is a graphic that is a total parody of The Dark Knight movie poster with the three faces of Joker, Batman, & Two-Face. Well, except they are characters from The Simpsons, ha ha! The 3rd picture is a fan-favorite of this page where we show a Batman-themed Birthday Cake. But this one is totally THE JOKER, "Why So Serious?". The last photo was sent in by a friend from Europe who saw this store front sign in the UK. A letter fell from the sign of a business & now there's a new name...
Batman's Opticians, ha ha! I wanna thank everybody who sent these. You know who you are & I do sincerely appreciate them all...thanks, we all need a good laugh every now & then!

Music Video: BATMAN SINGS QUEEN! Rome, Italy

When the Dark Knight is not fighting crime in Gotham City he likes to sing on stage in a rock band. No, really, I have the video to prove it! OK, this is not the real Batman but a group called "Innuendo".They did a cover to Queen's classic hit "One Vision". They performed it LIVE this last Halloween at a Rock Club called Geronimo's in Rome, Italy. I think they did a pretty good job on this song! Not bad at all! In fact, I think it would be cool if some Bat-Blog Readers left a comment on their YouTube video to let them know what YOU think of it. Please do so by clicking HERE!

Parody Webcomic: BATMAN AND SONS

Awhile back I discovered a very interesting webcomic that, at the time, I meant to share because it's actually kind of cool & the drawing style is really excellent. But, being busy with this site, I sort of forgot about it. Then later a friend mentioned it to me & I was like, oh yeah, that is a cool site. I have to say something about it. But then I couldn't find it ( I have like 4 million bookmarks, ha ha ). Then I got busy & forgot about it again. Well, just recently a Bat-Blog Reader wrote me about it, asking if I had ever heard of a site called BATMAN AND SONS. He sent a link. When I got there I laughed & thought, OK, I have to report it now...so, finally, here it is! ( Thanks to Jim for re-reminding me! ) Now it's sort of a high-concept kinda thing & to get into it you have to release all the preconceived feelings you have about the Batman character. Basically, you just have to sort of go with it! The idea is that Batman is a Father & all the Robin characters through the years are his small children. There's even a tiny baby who is the "Batman Beyond" character. I guess you can say it's a little bit like a TV Family Sitcom. Yes, see, I said it was kinda weird. But once you start to read it the thing sort of grows on you. Now, I'm assuming that some people will think it's charming & others ( mainly uptight crybabies ) won't like it at all. It reminds me a lot of the recent DC Comics title "Tiny Titans", where all the characters are small children. I don't know. Please check it out & let me know what you think about it. Here's a link, just click HERE!
