Over at the TOY-A-DAY website they have 2 totally awesome "Vintage-Style" BATMAN & ROBIN Paper Craft Toys you can download & make. Basically they are some free PDF files you can send to your PC's printer ( or e-mail to Kinko's Copies ) & then cut-out to assemble. I think the artist did an amazing job capturing all the small details. The toys look pretty cool & while you're there be sure to check out the many different designs they have. But I gotta warn ya, these Paper Craft Projects are totally addictive!
Here's an awesome Paper Craft Toy Figure of Adam West as Batman from the famous 1966 TV Series. The instructions are pretty easy. 1. Print it on card stock, 2. Cut it out, 3. fold & glue. It's an easy as pie. But I gotta warn you that once you start making these paper toys you're gonna go crazy & want to make more, more, more!((( You have been warned ))).

Over at the THINGIVERSE website an inventor gadget-guy named "Wizard23" has created a pretty cool Batman BAT-LAMP! It's small & compact. Plus, it shoots a Bat-Signal on the wall. It's really cool & at the website there are very detailed plans on how you can make your own. So, get busy! Go get the materials, read the website, & make one. One thing about the Internet is I'm totally loving the "Urban Paper Craft Toy" movement! Basically, a ton of different Graphic Artists are creating some fun toys that you can print with your computer & then put together to have figures or fun stuff. It's really neat, very creative, & highly addictive. Here are 2 figures of BATMAN & JOKER from the Dark Knight movie. Of course this is the "Heath Ledger" version of the Joker & he's just great! Too poor to afford an original Batman Movie Cowl Replica? Well, the Instructables website has a "How To" on building the perfect mask...out of duct tape! Yes, it's actually a pretty clever idea & also looks very cool! Over at the Cubeecraft website they just released a few more Brand-New Batman-related Paper Craft Toys you can make for fun! The 3 new ones include The Joker ( Heath Ledger / The Dark Knight movie version ), Two-Face ( More of a comic book style ), and Robin III ( modern comic book ). All you have to do is download the PDF file & print on your PC's printer ( use card stock for better results ). While there keep an eye out for 2 different Batman Figures. One is the 1960's TV Show version ( Adam West ) & the other one is Batman from the Batman Beyond cartoon ( Both of these were featured in a separate Bat-Blog post awhile back ). A new trend in the arts and crafts movement that is extremely fun & clever is the invention of "Paper Craft Toys". These are usually PDF files you can download on your computer, print out, then cut & shape into "action figures or dolls". Shown here is a new "BATMAN PAPER TOY" you can make. I recently came across a wonderful blog called "Sewing Cafe". It's a personal site of an Artist named Lynne Williams. There, she posts a lot of "How To" Articles & Tutorials on Craft Sewing Projects. This girl is an expert at making "Adam West-Style" Costumes. Just like the one seen on the 1966 BATMAN TV Show. The cool thing is she shares a lot of this information on her website. I got a lovely e-mail the other day from a friend over at Facebook. Her name is Billie & she said she decorated her bathroom in a Batman-Theme. She asked if I would like to see it & I'm like, "Heck Yeah!" Well, the Bat-Room is even better than I thought it would be! A friend of hers gave her some old Vintage Wallpaper that has a 1970's DC Comics Superhero motif. She only had enough to do one wall but it still looks great! She also custom-built ( or her friend did ) these 2 Batman Towel Racks...how AWESOME are those?! There's even a few Batman things laying around like Bat-Soap, Bat-Shampoo, Bat-Rug, that kinda thing. Plus, another of her creative friends painted the door with a skyline of Gotham City & the urgent Bat-Signal...WOW! Thank you Billie for sending us these wonderful photos. This is the coolest bathroom I have ever seen, seriously!As a side note I wanna let my readers know that the 4th photo of the "Superhero Wallpaper" is actually a "Desktop Wallpaper" you can use as a background. So, click on that to open it, then save as wallpaper, & Bam! You can have some of her wallpaper on your computer!
While writing this blog for way over a year ( see the Archives ) I have discovered that there are many Subcultures that have completely embraced Batman. Some examples are the "Cosplay People". They make props & costumes that are wayyy better than anything Hollywood makes, ha ha. There's the "Custom Toy People". Their hobby is to take discarded dolls & action figures and customize them to look like comic book characters that major toy companies have NEVER made a figure of. I could go on & on but every one of these people are quite creative & it's really cool! A new group of people I have come across lately are the "Paper Model Crafters". These people are sort of like the Custom Toy people except they make their art totally out of construction paper. Up above is a small example. Here's an extremely cool Batman "Action Figure" made from paper. The attention to details are nice & when you see figure after figure after figure they sort of start to really have a lot of appeal. I mean, they're quite clever & are a new interesting art form. I'll be doing other posts about this in the future. The guy who did this one said he's working on a Robin, The Boy Wonder figure. I think he's done a Joker but I couldn't get a clear picture of it. A friend sent me this link to a very cool art project that everybody can do ( Thanks Brian, you ROCK, Sir ). Basically you print the PDF file, cut it out, & you have a Paper Batman Mask! I suggest using some kind of card stock. I can't wait to make mine, ha ha! It sort of reminds me of the cowl worn by Adam West in the 1960's TV Show...AWESOME! Come to think of it these would be very cool to make for a little kid's birthday party. The mask was created by a very talented artist named Katie. Here's a link to her page:
The other day a friend turned me on to a website of an artist who makes some really great artwork. Her name is Elizabeth Garvey & she has a lot of style! Shown here are 2 very primitive-looking handmade dolls of Batman & Robin that are extremely cool. I love the homemade quality of them & the fact that they are not perfect. They look almost like a small child crafted them & that's a part of their special charm. Here's a link down below if you're interesting in seeing more of her work. Here's a wonderful vintage photo showing the cutest little girl ( looking so extremely proud ) in her new Batgirl Halloween costume. I love the expression on her face, she's beaming with pride! That's sweet & her mom did a really good job on this Batgirl Bat-Suit too. Who knew that this little girl would grow up to become the editor of MAKE magazine. MAKE is a web-magazine, that is also a real magazine, that covers the many different aspects of modern-day craft making. Crafts have become a really big deal lately & a lot of the people involved are very creative, that's cool. Here at the BAT-BLOG we really love it when people get super creative & produce Batman-inspired pieces. If you were to check out the BAT-BLOG Message Board you would see some custom toys, art, & models made by some of our members....cool stuff! Well, shown up above are 2 really neat craft items I found while crusing the net recently. One is a large Stained Glass Window with Batman in profile. I like the added touch of having the Bat-Signal symbol in the background, very well done! The next item is a display sign made from Plexiglass. If you look at the one side-view photo you can see that it has a cool 3-D effect, nice also! OK, You know I love me some paper-craft toys! This is a niche within the custom toy field that's just a lot of fun & anybody with a PC printer can join in on the action. Basically you download a PDF or JPG file of some artwork, print it out, then cut / paste...TAA DAA! You now have a fun toy to display! Here's a great example, Check out this HEATH LEDGER JOKER By Ewout Van Lambalgen. He's an awesome Illustrator & Web Designer in the Netherlands. He was inspired by Heath Ledger's amazing performance of THE JOKER in THE DARK KNIGHT Batman movie & made this free Paper Toy for everyone to download ( click on the image for a larger version ). Shown here are some photos of an amazing Custom Toy made by a Bat-Blog Reader known as "Turkey Bowinkle". Yeah, that's his name. You got a problem with that? But seriously he's a very creative person & he made this LITTLE JOKER Jack In The Box! It's a small wooden box with painted Joker Card graphics. When you open the lid - BOOM! - The Joker pops out! The Joker Figure is some sort of sculpted clay ( painted later ) with cloth clothing & green hair. I really love this little toy. It's so cool! The facial expression on Joker's face is really great & he does sort of look a lot like Cesar Romero from the 1966 Batman TV Show! So, "Turkey Bowinkle" is a very talented artist in deed! I wanna thank him for sending the wonderful pics & also invite all other Bat-Blog Readers ( with special art or craft projects ) to please send us some pics as well.
