Over at the BOINGBOING GADGETS website they recently featured this Homemade Batmobile that totally cracks me up! A friend to the Bat-Blog sent this link & I almost died laughing ( Thanks Patron, I needed that! ). It looks like some Bat-Fan took a 1973 Opel GT & customized it to be a very cool Batman car! OK, you might remember some photos the other day of Ernest's Batman Toy Collection. He has some really great stuff but 1 item made me sort of curious & I asked him about those. They were these "Custom Bat-Signal Light Covers". I wondered what they actually look like ON his truck & he was generous enough to take the time to shoot these very cool pics! Thanks Ernest. These Batman Light Covers are a very clever idea! I mean, some Car Accessory Company should totally make these! They look pretty cool during the day but when they are lit-up at night they're really great! The bat-shapes hold-up very well & I have to wonder if they project a bat-signal on to another surface, that's funny! I know the "night time" photo must have been hard to get but it turned out great, thanks! Readers, he even shot some pics of the trucks interior where he has Batman Floor Mats, Batman Steering Wheel Cover, & a Bat-Symbol Keychain hanging from his rear-view mirror. These are all items you can find at your local Auto Parts Stores ( I have some floor mats that are sort of like these, just a little different. I like the ones that Ernest has a lot better! ).
Here's an awesome Paper Craft Toy Figure of Adam West as Batman from the famous 1966 TV Series. The instructions are pretty easy. 1. Print it on card stock, 2. Cut it out, 3. fold & glue. It's an easy as pie. But I gotta warn you that once you start making these paper toys you're gonna go crazy & want to make more, more, more!((( You have been warned ))).
Our good friend Jerry, who lives in Taiwan, sent us some amazing photos the other day. He recently went to a store at some shopping mall in Taipei City called "Taiwan Figure Union". He said he saw a lot of awesome stuff, such as these 12" Batman Movie Custom Figures that some Bat-Fans got to display in the front store windows. I have to say that they are all very impressive with really great head sculpts. I mean, some of them look just like the original actors! The main focus for most of the dolls appear to be the 2005 BATMAN BEGINS movie, but in photo #2 we get to see a version from an earlier Batman movie, maybe 1992 BATMAN RETURNS-inspired. They made one of the "R'as al Ghul" character & it looks exactly like Liam Neeson, ha! They also made a more Modern Day "Comic Book JOKER" but used the body from THE DARK KNIGHT Heath Ledger figure by HOT TOYS ( in fact, I think all these customs were made using HOT TOYS bodies and it was just the heads & clothing that were customized ). The one of Police Sergeant Jim Gordon is one of my personal favorites as they did an amazing job on Gary Oldman's face. They did a few variations on Bruce Wayne's character which are pretty interesting. Overall, I would have to say that I'm very very impressed with all of these. As a side-note: I'm not really sure if they were all done by one artist or many different ones, but either way, very great work! Also, I wanna thank Jerry for taking the time to shoot these pics & sharing his love of the Batman Character with us. It's really neat seeing what goes on in Taiwan & it's so cool that there are serious Bat-Fans there too!!
A new friend to the Bat-Blog, named Rick, sent me an e-mail about his cool hobby of making custom dolls & action figures. He calls his company DARKSIDE CUSTOMS & his work is totally amazing! His focus is on the many different characters from the classic 1966 Batman TV Show. The attention to detail is totally insane! Plus, I really enjoy that he made a few of the obscure villains. Now of course he made a Batman & Robin ( Adam West, Burt Ward ) but the rouge's list includes: Catwoman ( Julie Newmar ), The Riddler ( Frank Gorshin ), Bookworm ( Roddy McDowall ), Mr. Freeze ( Otto Preminger ), The Madhatter ( David Wayne ), & Egghead ( Vincent Price ). Meeeeooowww! Here's something I came across on eBay & thought was pretty cool. It's a custom-made "Maquette" Art Sculpture of Catwoman in a sexy pose. It's modeled after the artwork of Bruce Timm's Batman: The Animated Series ( shown below ). The artist's name is Beverly Gilroy & she works for Hourglass studios. Purrrrfect!
Shown here is an awesome Custom Batman Mighty Muggs Figure made by an artist named Nico Deacosta. This one is inspired by the comic book art of Mike Mignola. Nico runs a blog where he showcases his talent for customizing Mighty Muggs figures. He's made a ton of them like Hellboy 2, the X-Men, Masked Rider, Hitman 2, Red Hulk, Predator, & many many more! I got an e-mail the other day from a female reader who said, "OK, so I go to a Vo-Tech School and I finished all my work early so I decided to use this time to work on my own personal piece. I designed and created it myself, out of metal using a band saw, drill, mill, and sanding belt...enjoy!"
WOW! Bat-Knuckles! Ummm, I don't think Batman would actually use these because they look pretty deadly, if ya ask me, ha ha! But the overall design is awesome!
Shown here is a photo taken of our friend Drew at a recent Halloween office party. He decided to be Batman but he didn't want to be the same one as everybody else. He wanted a Bat-Suit that would be totally unique. Well, mission accomplished! He created a version of Batman as if he were a character from the current Green Lantern "Blackest Night" storyline. I guess you could call him, the "Blackest Knight", ha ha. But the costume came out really well & you have to applaud the creativity involved. Thanks Drew for sending this photo in, I always appreciate stuff like this...good job!
I came across these the other day & knew I had to share them, they're totally hilarious! Here are a few MY LITTLE PONY Figures that have been completely customized to look like Batman, Robin, and Batgirl. These custom toys were made by an artist named Jodi K. Moisan & her work is extremely excellent! In fact, I wish that Hasbro would make these for real! She has done a ton of these & they are all really great but I thought I would focus on the Batman-related ones for this blog. But, if you're a comic book fan she also did many different Marvel Comics characters too & even some TV stars like Mr. T!
Over at the THINGIVERSE website an inventor gadget-guy named "Wizard23" has created a pretty cool Batman BAT-LAMP! It's small & compact. Plus, it shoots a Bat-Signal on the wall. It's really cool & at the website there are very detailed plans on how you can make your own. So, get busy! Go get the materials, read the website, & make one. A Bat-Blog Fan named, literally, "Some Random Guy" sent us this photo of his 1995 Mitsubishi Diamante that he just started to customize. So far the car is black & gray with a cool Batman Bat-Symbol Logo painted on the hood. He said even though he is going to keep the design very simple, there are a few more things he is going to do & then he will send more pics of the finished product. That's cool. So far the car looks really great! I look forward to seeing it completed. Thanks for sending the photo, "Random Guy". A new friend to the Bat-Blog, named John, sent us some very cool photos of some amazing action figures he has customized. They all have a cool retro silver-age look about them & he did a great custom job! Check out the pics of the toys he made. You'll see Superman, Batman, Red Tornado, Hawkman, & The Joker too! The detailing in the costumes is very accurate & these figures look AWESOME! Thank you John for sharing these, you did a great job on them.
YYEEE HAAAWW! Somebody done made themselves a Batmobile, bang bang! OK, all kidding aside this Homemade Custom Batmobile Replica Car is actually pretty cool! You KNOW you want one! It looks like it was made from a 1970's Corvette. In fact, the license plate says, "BAT-VET" ( I love that, ha ha! ). Plus, those HUGE tail-fins are pretty sweet!
A good friend to the Bat-Blog, named Billy, sent us these amazing photos he found on the internet the other day. They show a Customized Munny Figure made to look like Batman, only cuter! But the artist didn't stop there. He ( or she ) also made a custom Batmobile Car! Both the figure & vehicle look extremely awesome! I really like the small details like the bat-belt. I also love the "cartoon-look" & the Batmobile really reminds me of the one used in the 1989 Batman Movie, except it's super-cute! Thanks for sharing these pics Billy.
