MEGO Pocket Superheroes BAT-MACHINE BATMAN VEHICLE

Shown here is an amazing Vintage Batman Toy called BAT-MACHINE! It was a special vehicle made by the MEGO Toy Company in 1980 for their line of 3 1/4" Mego Pocket Superhero Action Figures. It was a fully computer-programmable vehicle a lot like the BIG TRAX toy made by Milton Bradley Electronics. OK, I can not even start to explain how extremely SUPER-RARE this baby is but in 20+ years of super-collecting I have never seen one in the box & the loose one I seen at a toy show many years ago was totally wasted, ha ha! This one is beautiful, with the original box, & is a total museum piece!

Here's an extremely RARE 1970's Mego Action Figure 8" Doll of Batman with Removable Cowl on a RARE "Kresge Card". The above photo ( which is a larger pic if you click on it ) shows both the front & back. Most of the Mego Batman figures has a "Batman head" with him permantly wearing the cowl but this one had a "Bruce Wayne" head with a cowl that came off....cool! MEGO MEET 2010 - Vintage Toy Collector Show

Do you remember those wonderful Mego Dolls from the 70's? Do you collect them? Well, the Mego Museum is having their annual MEGO MEET again this June. I know, that's about 3 months away but I thought I would report it now so many of you can make travel plans. I will probably remind everybody closer to the time it actually happens but it's good to know early. Now, for people who have never been, MegoMeet is a chance for the Mego Toy Collectors Community to get together in person to trade and buy parts and action figures, sit in on sessions designed to educate and answer questions about the Mego Corporation and the Toys they made, but more than anything a chance to hook up with friends and fellow collectors live and in person, instead of over the internet. This year it will be in Wheeling, West Virginia at the Kruger Street Toy and Train Museum. The date for the event is June 11th & 12th, 2010. OK, this thing is always way too far for me to go so if any of you go please send us some cool pics!

Johnny's CUSTOM BATMAN & ROBIN GI Joe Doll Clothes

This is a really nice story. Here's some pics sent in by a Bat-Blog Reader named Johnny. When he was a little kid, back in the 1970's, a lady who was a good neighbor made him some Batman & Robin clothes for his large 12" GI Joe Dolls. They were made to sort of be like the Mego Superhero Figures we all know & love. Well, out of sentimental reasons he has kept these outfits for all these years. Later, he got some large dolls to display the mini-costumes as a way to remember her ( she recently passed away ). Now I think these clothes are just totally wonderful & she did a great job on them. OK, I know that they're not totally perfect or completely accurate but a lot of goodness & love went into making them. So for that reason they're really special. Plus, they actually are pretty cool! Thanks to Johnny for sharing his nice story & pics.

Here's an extremely RARE Vintage Toy TV Commercial from our friends at the Mego Museum. It shows the Ultra-RARE set of 4 "Fist-Fighting Mego Action Figure Dolls". The audio quality isn't that good it still gives you a great idea what the event was like. When kids saw this TV spot in the 1970's they must have flipped-out!

RARE BATGIRL Batman Bendy Action Figure By MEGO ©1976

Today a friend of the BAT-BLOG sent us this really cool photo of a Super-RARE Vintage 1970's BATGIRL BENDY ACTION FIGURE Mego Toy that he thought you guys would enjoy seeing. I think he was right! This puppy is extremely hard-to-find & you NEVER see it MINT IN ORIGINAL PACKAGE like this....Thanx Dave! This was made by MEGO in the late 70's, I'm thinking ©1976. I have a few of these Mego Superhero Bendys in my personal collection but they are all loose, MINT, out of the package. I mean, these are very very hard-to-find still in the original packaging, LOL. I have Batgirl, Batman, Robin, Joker, Riddler, & Penguin. Oh yeah, I think I have a Superman, can't remember. I'll probably post a picture of them later for another story. Vintage MEGO Batmobile Customized To Look Like The 1966 TV Show Car!

The BAT-BLOG has a friend nick-named "BAT-ROB" who loves to customize Vintage 1970's Mego Action Figure Dolls & their accessories. Here's a picture of a Mego Batmobile that he customized & he did a really great job on it!! Basically he gave the car alot more details & some paint but what an amazing difference! He even added the glass windshields & made the tail-fins more accurate...WOW! I think he did such a great job on this I had to share it w/ my readers! The photo shows 2 cars: One is what a regular Mego Batmobile car looks like & the other one is the one he did....awesome! ( Click the Small Picture Above To See Larger Photo with Better details ).

RARE Mego 1977 BATMAN'S WAYNE FOUNDATION PLAY SET

Here's a Holy Grail to both Vintage Batman & 1970's Mego Collectors. It's called the BATMAN'S WAYNE FOUNDATION. Basically it's a playset of the building owned by Bruce Wayne that was made by Mego in 1977 for the 8" action figures/dolls. The front looks like a commercial building & the other side shows the "Batcave" that is hidden inside. Both the original box & actual toy are HUGE!! When built the building is over 40 inches tall. I have always wanted one of these because I thought it would be a great item to display loose Mego Dolls of Batman, Robin, Batgirl, Joker, Catwoman, Penguin, Riddler, & Bruce Wayne. This baby is so SUPER-RARE it's what we toy people call a "Museum Piece"!

Vintage PENGUIN TOYS & MEMORABILIA Batman Villian

Here's a nice assortment of Vintage Batman Toys and Memorabilia featuring The super-villian THE PENGUIN. The 1st item, & probably the rarest, is the Penguin Batman Model Kit made by Aurora in 1966. This is an extremely RARE kit that you don't see everyday! I love the vintage graphics on the box. The next item is a 45 rpm Record where the sleeve is die-cut to the shape of the Penguin graphic, very cool! Plus, both songs are sort of "Penguin Related". The 3rd picture shows the Super-RARE PENGUIN PEZ Candy Dispenser. This was released by Pez in ©1976 & the unusual thing about it is the head is made out of rubber. In the same "rubber head" Super Hero set they also made Wonder Woman, The Joker, Batman, & Batgirl. The last photo shows a RARE 1970's Penguin Mego Action Figure 8" Doll in the original box. These Megos were usually "carded" so seeing one in the box is a treat. I mean, this baby belongs in a Vintage Toy Museum! Reader Photos: Awesome ROBIN, THE BOY WONDER Vintage Toy & Action Figure Collection!!

It seems that every day new readers are discovering the Bat-Blog ( I love that! ) but what I love more is the fact that a lot of them send in some really great photos, ha ha! This is a perfect example. This morning I got this wonderful e-mail from a new reader:

Hi, this is my first time emailing you, and I was reading through the archives how readers emailed you pictures that would look cool on your website. I have a picture of some of my Robin figures that I thought you'd might be interested in. Most of it are megos, but a few are DC Direct action figures. The strange looking Robin with the weird outfit is a Lily Ledy one ( the Mexican equivalent of a Mego ). It's a pretty cool piece!

And I also have a really neat Non-Magnetic Fly Away Action Mego Robin with artwork that just pops in the back! This figure is pretty rare and I wanted to share it.

And my last picture is a Secret Identity Bruce Wayne Mego figure. These are pretty rare as well and everything on mine is all original EXCEPT the tie, which is a repro. The deal with the secret identity figures is that they were only available exclusively at Montgomery Wards during a short time in 1974. I'll be getting a Dick Grayson Secret Identity one soon so if you want to see a picture of that one feel free to message me back.

JOKER / BATMAN TOYS Both Vintage & Modern!

Checking my Bat-Files, ha ha, I noticed that I have collected a few photos of some cool Joker Toys ( both past & present ) so that gets to be the post of the day. The 1st photo is of a Joker Pin-Up Poster that was drawn by the classic comic book artists Carmine Infantino & Murphy Anderson. Ya gotta admit that this is a beautiful piece of ART! The 2nd item is the sheet music for THE MAN WHO LAUGHS. OK, This is not an official piece of Batman merchandise. But, this is the picture that inspired Bob Kane to help create the Joker & it's sorta famous among Batman fans & collectors. ( Notice I said, "helped" to create ). The 3rd item is an amazing example of Batman/Joker Memorabilia. It's the FIST-FIGHTING JOKER Mego 8" Doll in Original Box with Karate Kung-Fu Action! This was released in the 1970's & is EXTREMELY RARE!! ( Thank You Jimmy for sending that photo). Following the doll is a nice photo of the recent JOKERMOBILE Diecast car made by Corgi. Recently Corgi made a ton of these Batman-related vehicles, mostly many different variations of the Batmobile, but this is one of my favorites. The next pic is an example of a few DC Comics Mini-Mates "action figures" made by DC Direct. I really love the one of Harley Quinn. The last photo is very current but because of limited quantity is extremely RARE. Warner Bros recently gave away a few Joker T-Shirts has part of their DARK KNIGHT Movie Viral-Marketing Campaign. The t-shirt was presented in a gift box with the logo for a fake company called "Gotham Novelties, Inc". It's funny because it says, "Est. 1928", ha ha! The T-Shirt of Heath Ledger's face is kinda cool but I really love the beautiful gift box more. Whew! This was a lot to cover. Random Photos of Great Vintage Batman Memorabilia!

I'm really tired this morning so I thought I would just do an easy post, nothing complicated, but still fun. Here's some random photos of cool Vintage Batman Memorabilia! The 1st photo is my favorite because I had this Melamine Plate, Bowl, & Cup Set as a small child & I still have the original plate. It hangs in my kitchen & every time I see it I always feel all warm & fuzzy inside, ha ha! In this photo we get to see the Dinner Set all shrink-wrapped in it's original box, which believe me, is way beyond RARE! I would kill for this! The next photo will be recognized by all 1970's Mego Fans for it's rarity & beauty. This is the COMIC ACTION HEROES Play Set with Exploding bridge & Batmobile. This was made for the smaller action figures & NOT the 8" dolls so the scale is way smaller. I have that Batmobile but it's missing the clear roof canopy piece, still pretty cool. The next item I see on eBay all the time. It isn't vintage but still pretty neat & would look great on a hat or jacket. It's a sew-on patch with graphics of George Barris' 1966 TV Show Batmobile, a true work of Art! The last photo was sent in by a reader named Randy who wrote, "Tommy, I was walking through my local outdoor flea market ( Tulsa, Oklahoma ) recently when all of a sudden my eye caught a glimspe of this rare 1966 Batman Bicycle Tag! I ran over to it, grabbed it, then remembered that I needed to not act all excited about it so the dealer wouldn't raise the price, ha ha ha. I asked how much it was & he said $5.00. I could not get my wallet out fast enough!". Wow, Randy! I love the story but wish I would have found it first, ya bastard! Ha Ha, just kiddin'! ( Randy's a good friend & I can tease him like that ). Thanks for sending me the photo Randy, ya know, to torture me. But, I do appreciate it because my readers will love it, thanks. TOY FAIR 2010 - Retro Action DC Super Heroes by Mattel

Straight from the 2010 TOY FAIR here comes this awesome set of photos showing some of the brand-new RETRO-ACTION DC SUPER HEROES Action Figure Dolls!! Anybody who grew-up in the 1970's will totally remember 8" Mego Dolls & these are designed to be just like them...AWESOME!! I played with the original ones as a little kid! These are made by Mattel & in the 1st photo you can see the whole wave. There will be Superman, Sinistro, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Lex Luthor, Black Mantis, Two-Face, & Batman/Bruce Wayne. For the next few pics I'm just showing the Batman-related ones because that's what the Bat-Blog is all about...Cool Batman Toys!! But I am totally loving these figures & can't wait to get them all!!

VINTAGE BAT-COPTER TOYS Holy Helicopter, Batman!

Shown up above are just 4 examples of the many different types of Bat-Copter ( Batman Helicopter ) Toys that were made through out the years. The 1st is the most RARE & probably the most beautiful. This Bat-Copter was made by Irwin Plastic Toy Co in 1966. It's black injection-molded ( hollow ) plastic with stickers that have great graphics. This baby is super hard-to-find in MINT shape because as you can well of guessed it got pretty trashed during play time! The next item is kind of small & cute but it's the Die-Cast Bat-Copter made by Corgi. This one was part of a play set with other bat-vehicles. It was made in 1979. The 3rd piece of Bat-Nostalgia is the SUPER POWERS Bat-Copter made by Kenner & was scaled for the action figures. Looking at the box with both English & French languages it was released in Canada. The last bit of Bat-Memorabilia is the other Bat-Copter made for the COMIC ACTION HEROES Action Figures made by Mego. These figures were smaller & the cool thing about this helicopter is that it had a device to make it actually fly. Just rip the cord & off it goes! Jason's CUSTOM BATMAN MEGO DOLL - 8" Action Figure!

Everybody who grew-up in the 1970's has fond memories of a toy line called MEGO. They made a lot of Superhero Toys that have now become classic. These things are getting a lot harder to find now. But something that has happened in the last few years is that people are totally into customizing them. Well, they're not ruining ones that are in good shape, that would be bad, but on occasion you find them totally wasted & that's what they use. I think it's really cool. I love when people are creative like this & sometimes the result of these custom figures is extremely cool & very clever. Here's a very good example: Our friend Jason sent us some photos of an Adam West 1966 Batman TV Show MEGO Doll he put together. He got the fake Blister Card from one source, the clothing from another, & so on. Then he made this awesome Batman figure!! The details are wonderful. It's a total fantasy-piece, because MEGO TOYS never made this, but it would have been so great if they did! The figure measures about 8" tall & comes with a Bat-Suit Costume, Head Cowl, Boots, Gloves, & a Bat-Belt!! I also love the packaging. It looks so authentic & seeing the photos of the characters is really cool. I wanna thank Jason for sending these incredible photos & if any other Bat-Blog Fans out there are into making Custom Toys of any kind then please sen us your pics.
