CHALLENGE OF THE SUPERFRIENDS Model Sheets

Here's the original model sheets for CATWOMAN & RIDDLER done by Alex Toth for the CHALLENGE OF THE SUPERFRIENDS Cartoon ©1978 Hanna Barbera. As a little kid going to comic book conventions I met Alex Toth & he was really nice to me. I regret that I was too young to think about getting a sketch or autograph but we had a nice long talk. He was really impressed with how I was totally familuar with alot of his "Golden Age" artwork & comics. He asked what comics I was reading at the time & he said he read some of those too, it was cool. This was around the same time these drawings were done.

BATMAN & ROBIN Join The Crusade For Children's Rights!

In 1979 Bob Kane was commissioned to do the artwork for a UNICEF Poster. It has Batman & Robin with children of different races. Here's what it looked like, it's pretty cool!

Classic Comic Book Cover : Batman # 129

This is the cover to Batman # 129 made during their "wacky period". The villain tells Batman & Robin, "DON'T COME ANY CLOSER, BATMAN, OR I'LL TURN THE FAN TO FULL SPEED---AND BATWOMAN WILL BE DOOMED!". Ha Ha, great stuff!

Photos: 2 Vintage Batman Toys & a Comic Book Ad

The title for this post isn't too exciting is it? But the pictures are pretty cool. One of the toys shown here I have never seen before. It's the 1st picture with the BAT-COPTER Model Kit that has the original box, from the 1960's. I have never never NEVER seen this so it's gotta be super-RARE! Thank you Donald for sending the photo. The next item is pretty cool & also very obscure. This is the Batman Battery Tester from 1975. You know this item was fun to play with for hours & hours, ha ha! I do like the vintage graphics because it looks like Carmine Infantino art work. The last picture is an ad for SILLY PUTTY from inside a comic book. It's from the 60's & I thought it was kinda cool. Thanks again Donald for sending us the photo of this rare model kit. If any other members have photos of their RARE Batman pieces then please e-mail them to us. The Bat-Blog is ALL about sharing the love of collecting Batman...Thanx!!

BOB KANE Original Comic Art BATMAN WATERCOLOR

Recently I've been on sort of a Batman "Original Comic Art " theme! I love both Batman the character & the classic artwork, so there! Anyway, you can imagine my surprise when I came across this super-excellent graphic at the CATSKILLS COMICS webpage! This Comic Book Art Gallery is located in New York & has some really incredible stuff to see. For example, here's an original piece of ART from the Batman creator himself Bob Kane! It's a Watercolor Painting on 12x17 Board, Purchased in late 1970's from Circle Gallery, from Private Collection, & it's the first time it's available to the public since it's purchase from the Gallery. The asking price is $7000 so if you're interested you should check it out! I know many of you want to buy me gifts for doing such a great job on the Bat-Blog & I think this would be the perfect idea, ha ha!

Be sure to click-on the small picture of Bob Kane's Batman to see a larger, more detailed, photo! We also have many more pieces of Original Art to check out so please look thru the BAT-BLOG ARCHIVES for more!

ROBIN, THE BOY WONDER Vintage 1960's Captain Action Doll Outfit

In the late 1960's the Ideal Toy Company ventured into the action figure doll market with a line of toys called CAPTAIN ACTION. He was alot like GI Joe except the outfits you could buy were all superhero characters. He had a kid sidekick named ACTION BOY. Action Boy had 3 outfits to buy : Superboy, Aqualad, & Robin, The Boy Wonder! Here's an example of the ROBIN UNIFORM in it's original window-box packaging. I love the classic vintage graphics....awesome!

BATMAN AD : Batman From The 30's To The 70's Hardback Book

Here's a picture sent in by a BAT-BLOG reader that I meant to share awhile back but like a moron put it in the wrong folder & didn't find it until now, ha ha. Sorry, Frank but thanks for a very cool picture of an original ad placed in a publication for bookstore owners to order books. It was an ad from the publishers of the now classic hardback book BATMAN FROM THE 30's TO THE 1970's! I had this book as a kid & still have it in my personal collection. It's one of my all-time favorite bat-items. It has some really great stories & wonderful graphics. In the picture up above you can see the large hardback book on the right, the ad is on the left side...nice! The artwork is done by classic Silver Age artist Carmine Infantino! Thanks again Frank for this piece of Bat-History!

BATMAN CHECKS & ADDRESS LABELS - FUNNY!

I just opened a new bank account the other day & needed some checks. While surfing thru a webpage called CHECKS IN THE MAIL I found some Batman checks & address label sets. Actually they are DC Comics Super Hero checks & labels. Ya see, they make you also buy Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, & Flash. But, the checks & Labels with Batman are pretty cool! Here's a link to check them out ( no pun intended ). Once there, look on the left & click on "Cartoon Sets".

Vintage Batman & Robin Toys From The 1960's

Whew! Yesterday I just got back from vacation & it was a nice trip. It's really nice to get outta town for a few days & recharge the old batteries. Now I'm ready to get back to posting! I thought I would share some pics of a few cool Vintage Batman Toys because that is what BAT-BLOG readers like best. I usually have a "theme" to these posts but this time they're just a mix of toys from mostly the1960's. Some are even foreign ones. The 1st photo is a picture of an original 1966 Batman Gumball Machine Vending Display Card showing some Flicker Key Chains. In my personal collection I have ALL the key chains but not this display card...aaahhhh! Thanks for sending the photo, Dave! The next shot is a nice picture of the 1966 Batman Marble Maze Game by Hasbro. This is a large clear disc where you try to move marbles around a game board without the marble falling in a hole, sort of a huge dexterity puzzle game. I love the vintage-style graphics. The 3rd picture is a really RARE 1967 Coloring Book from the UK. Actually it's a Sticker-Fun Book but made by the famous coloring book people & in the same format.

Batman Funny Humor : Original 1966 Batman Begins Poster

Here's a really great photoshopped piece of ART! This is a "Movie Poster" done in the graphic style of the newer BATMAN BEGINS movie but it features the 1966 TV Show Batman, Adam West. This movie is called BATMAN BEGAN, ha ha ha! Whoever did it did a super-great job on it. Today I was feeling like posting some funny Batman pictures & the humor on this was so good it had to be posted!

Batman Funny Humor : MARTIN REBAS Comic Strips

Here are 2 really humorous Batman comic strips done in 2004 by Martin Rebas. They are extremely funny pictures too & that's hard to do because the Dark Knight is a very serious guy, ha ha! Also, I really like this guy's art style. The lines are rough & the choice of coloring is really good too. This guy deserves his own comic book...check it out!

RARE Mego 1977 BATMAN'S WAYNE FOUNDATION PLAY SET

Here's a Holy Grail to both Vintage Batman & 1970's Mego Collectors. It's called the BATMAN'S WAYNE FOUNDATION. Basically it's a playset of the building owned by Bruce Wayne that was made by Mego in 1977 for the 8" action figures/dolls. The front looks like a commercial building & the other side shows the "Batcave" that is hidden inside. Both the original box & actual toy are HUGE!! When built the building is over 40 inches tall. I have always wanted one of these because I thought it would be a great item to display loose Mego Dolls of Batman, Robin, Batgirl, Joker, Catwoman, Penguin, Riddler, & Bruce Wayne. This baby is so SUPER-RARE it's what we toy people call a "Museum Piece"!
Be sure to check the BAT-BLOG ARCHIVES for many more Vintage Batman Toys including Mego, Corgi, Ideal, Kenner, Marx, Irwin, etc...

THE DARK KNIGHT Movie BATMAN Mattel Action Figure Photo

Here's a picture of the Batman action figure prototype made by Mattel for THE DARK KNIGHT movie. This was presented at the recent 2007 NYC Licensing Show where Mattel announced they will be the "official toy maker" for THE DARK KNIGHT movie, the sequel to Batman Begins. There will be TDK figures of Christian Bale's Batman ( shown here ), Heath Ledger's Joker, etc...even the BAT-POD Bat-Bike Motorcycle we have all been seeing lately. They will also make the BAT-POD into a special R/C Remote Control toy. That sounds cool!

BATMAN TATTOO PHOTO: Jim Lee's Batman & Superman

Recently, while cruising through MySpace, I came across this really cool picture of a Batman & Superman Tattoo. I'm not exactly sure of the comic book art work it was inspired from but I think the comic book artist was Jim Lee. ( If any body knows where the actual art work is then please send it ). It features a modern day Batman with the gray suit, simple black bat-logo on the chest, & the "army pouches" bat-belt. This Batman & Superman tattoo work was done by DAVE WAUGH TATTOOS & we think he did a great job on it! I mean, check out the photo...it's ART! The tattoo artist's website URL is shown on the photo so be sure to check out his site sometime & maybe get some work done, this guy is gooood!

Shown up above is a classic comic book cover re-creation by Fred Hembeck. For this one he did the 1st appearance of Batman in Detective Comics # 27, an icon. We're proud to say that Fred is a good friend of the BAT-BLOG & we actually hope he sees this post! I think he would be tickled pink about it, ha ha. If you're a Hembeck Fan then be sure to check out our BAT-LINKS PAGE for a link to his famous FRED SEZ Blog & also remember to search eBay where Fred sometimes sells the Original Art of his classic comic cook recreations!

Batman Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday! VINTAGE BATWOMAN ON HER BAT-CYCLE

REMEMBER : Every Wednesday is "Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday" at the BAT-BLOG!! Each week we try to theme the wallpaper in a way so that everybody gets something they like. This time we thought we would use the crazy theory "Something old, something new". The 1st wallpaper, featuring vintage 1940's graphics of Batwoman on her Bat-Cycle, was actually made by a BAT-BLOG Reader & sent to us thru our Bat-Blog Message Board! I know it sounds kinda corny but it was actually a very proud moment for us here, ha ha. He did a great job on it & we really love the "Golden Age" Batman! The 2nd wallpaper is a more recent version of Batman & we like the gothic buildings with the moonlight behind him, pretty cool. Both of these would look great for a MySpace Layout but if you're looking for something else be sure to check our BATMAN WALLPAPER PAGE, the link button is on the top/right of this page. Also, be sure to check the BAT-BLOG ARCHIVES for 50+ wallpapers posted in the past!

Bat-Birthdays: DAVID WARNER Voice Actor for Batman The Animated Series, R'as al Ghul

I feel really really bad! A new function of the BAT-BLOG is to wish a Happy Birthday for all people who are related to Batman in some way. Well, last Sunday, July 29th, was the 66th birthday of David Warner & I forgot to do the post! So, here's a belated birthday wish to David! He's an incredible actor who I am sure many of you have seen in television & films. He was also the voice of R'as al Ghul on the Batman: The Animated Series...HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR.WARNER!

Vintage Batman Toys: Puzzles

Recently the BAT-BLOG has sort of been bogged down with THE DARK KNIGHT movie news so I thought I would do a traditional posting that is about Vintage Batman Toys. Which, is the main function of this blog! Here's some nice examples of different Batman Puzzles made thru the ages. The 1st one is a 1966 Batman & Penguin Puzzle made by Whitman. The graphics are really wonderful with a cool vintage Batman-Logo. The next picture is one of those Batman "Canister Puzzles" made by APC from 1973. I always thought that the way they sold them in coffee cans was kind of neat. The graphics on this baby were done by the Classic Comic Book Artist Carmine Infantino...nice! The next puzzle is one of my favorites. It was made by Aurora of all companies. They specialized in slot cars & model kits but I guess since they had the rights to use Neal Adams' awesome artwork they went ahead & made this puzzle. The cool thing about this puzzle is that it is super-HUGE & when put together it's almost 9 square feet, GIANT-SIZE, & great for display on the wall!! The last puzzle is a wooden frame tray puzzle made by Playskool. It features the cartoon version of the Batman & Robin movie, very obscure!

BATMAN HUMOR Political Cartoon Comic Strip

Here's a recent find on the internet of a funny Batman Political Cartoon by Mike Peters. The topic was Jesse Jackson & his Rainbow Coalition...hee hee!

Vintage PENGUIN TOYS & MEMORABILIA Batman Villian

Here's a nice assortment of Vintage Batman Toys and Memorabilia featuring The super-villian THE PENGUIN. The 1st item, & probably the rarest, is the Penguin Batman Model Kit made by Aurora in 1966. This is an extremely RARE kit that you don't see everyday! I love the vintage graphics on the box. The next item is a 45 rpm Record where the sleeve is die-cut to the shape of the Penguin graphic, very cool! Plus, both songs are sort of "Penguin Related". The 3rd picture shows the Super-RARE PENGUIN PEZ Candy Dispenser. This was released by Pez in ©1976 & the unusual thing about it is the head is made out of rubber. In the same "rubber head" Super Hero set they also made Wonder Woman, The Joker, Batman, & Batgirl. The last photo shows a RARE 1970's Penguin Mego Action Figure 8" Doll in the original box. These Megos were usually "carded" so seeing one in the box is a treat. I mean, this baby belongs in a Vintage Toy Museum! Be sure to check the BAT-BLOG ARCHIVES for many more Batman Vintage Toys including Corgi, Mattel, Ideal, TransOgram, Marx, Kenner, & many more!
